SUMMARY: The Trailer Mechanic – Welding & Fabrication Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and fabricating components on enclosed trailers, lift gates, and related fleet equipment. This role requires strong mechanical ability, professional-quality welding skills, and the capability to fabricate structural and cosmetic components to OEM or company standards
Essential Duties:
Trailer Maintenance & Repair
• Perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on enclosed trailers.
• Repair structural components such as floors, walls, roofs, doors, and frames.
• Replace or repair suspension components, brakes, hubs, electrical wiring, and lighting.
• Service trailer bodies, including roll-up doors, swing doors, roofs, bulkheads, and undercarriages.
Welding & Fabrication
• Perform MIG, Stick, and/or TIG welding on steel and aluminum components.
• Fabricate brackets, supports, gussets, ramps, and plates for trailer reinforcement or repair.
• Cut, shape, and fit metal materials using torches, grinders, plasma cutters, and metal saws.
• Ensure welds meet structural integrity, safety, and appearance standards.
• Repair damaged structural members such as crossmembers, rails, and subframes.
Lift Gate Repair
• Diagnose and repair lift gate mechanical, structural, and hydraulic components.
• Perform cylinder replacements, pump repairs, electrical troubleshooting, and safety system checks.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on lift gates (lubrication, pivots, pins, rollers, wiring, etc.).
• Perform weld repairs on lift gate platforms and frames.
Safety & Compliance
• Follow OSHA, DOT, state inspection, and company safety procedures.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Complete required documentation such as repair orders, PM checklists, and work logs.
Other Duties
• Operate shop equipment including lifts, jacks, forklifts, and diagnostic tools.
• Support general shop repairs as needed (truck bodies, equipment racks, small fabrication jobs).
• Assist with on‑site or roadside repairs when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• 3+ years’ experience as a trailer mechanic or fabricator.
• Strong welding skills (MIG required; TIG and aluminum preferred).
• Ability to read measurements, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.
• Understanding of hydraulic and 12‑volt electrical systems.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in various shop conditions.
• Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience repairing Maxon, Waltco, or Anthony lift gates.
• Fabrication experience in a fleet, body shop, or trailer shop environment.
• State inspection license (if applicable).
• Forklift certification
Physical Requirements
• Standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and overhead work.
• Ability to use power tools, welding equipment, and heavy shop tools.
• Ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions.

- Company provides shop tools, welding equipment, and required PPE.
- Employees responsible for maintaining personal tools (if applicable).
Certifications & Training
- AWS welding certification (preferred).
- DOT or state trailer inspection certification (preferred).
- Willingness to participate in ongoing technical and safety training.
